“Fish Oils Changed My Life”

I found the following story, submitted by a 50 year old man to the Dyslexia Research Trust, quite inspiring. Clearly, high-EPA fish oil may help at any age and stage…

C.W. has suffered from attention deficit– hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) all his life. He was already 50 years old when he first came across our research and as a result started taking fish oil tablets (EPA). That was about a year ago and below he describes the almost miraculous changes that he has experienced.

After a few months of taking the capsules, I noticed that I had a lot more energy, I now jog every day and go three times a week to the gym (where difficult things have become easy). I have the feeling that I can see better, my skin has cleared up and I have less trouble with glare when driving.

Reading has always been a difficult chore; my thoughts would wonder off and my eyes would travel across paragraphs of text as if reading, but without taking anything in. I would reach the end of a paragraph, notice that I had no memory of he contents and try again for understanding and remembering. I used all kinds of note-taking tricks to try to keep my mind on the reading task.

Today however, I can read attentively as if without effort. I remember names and dates, which once I would have had no hope of recalling. My social reactions are also different. It is easy for me to listen to people and understand their feelings. I notice their expressions and reactions without even trying.

My poor progress in mathematics was largely a result of my attention deficit. Mathematics requires both insight and exactitude. I would get an idea and start calculating but find that my results did not seem to make sense. Most often I would have made some kind of careless error. In my school days and initial years at University I lost faith in my mathematical insight. After starting on the fish oils however, I have discovered that mathematics is really easy.

I have recently enrolled to complete a Bachelor/Masters (combined degree) in maths and physics and I am finding the work easy and exciting. I am also teaching mathematics at a local high school, and currently have the prospect of a new job teaching applied mathematics at a College of Advanced Education in the Faculty of Electronics Engineering.

I may, after half a century, actually reach my goal after all. I feel like my life has started again at 50.”
